Sunburn usually results from intense exposure to sun. Sunburn causes a person to become more susceptible to various diseases related to skin. Most of the complications resulting from sunburn are infection, wrinkled skin, premature again of skin, liver spots and skin cancer. It normally occurs within hours after exposure to sun and the fading of sunburn may require few days to happen.

Sunburn Treatment The intense exposure to sun causes the energy from sun to penetrate deep into the skin and cause considerable amount of damage to skin cells. When this happens the affected spot becomes reddish, increasingly painful and when touched feels very hot. The skin damage occurring due to sunburn is primary because of DNA damage of skin cells. The sunburn usually is blistering and occupies a larger portion of body. When sunburn happens, high fever, diarrhea or vomiting may be accompanied. It also causes severe pain in affected spot.

What are the causes of Sunburn?

It is said that sunburns are resulted from larger exposure to the ultraviolet light. The wavelength of UV radiation which is from sunlight is in a smaller range for the human eye to visualize. The damage caused by the UV rays to the DNA of skin cells may cause melanoma which is a cancer of skin. It has been found that not all UV rays from sun cause ill effects to skin. Only UVA and UVB which can reach earth causes damage.

How does UV light act to cause sunburn?

The production of melanin plays a vital role in the damage caused by sunburn. Melanin is nothing but a dark pigment which is responsible for giving the skin its normal color. This melanin pigment is present in the epidermis. The exposure to UV light causes the skin to increase its production of this dark pigment. Continual and intense exposure to UV light leads to the production of extra melanin which shields the deeper layers of skin. This eventually creates the darker color similar to tan. A suntan is nothing but a way of preventing the UV rays entering the body causing the sunburn. Suntan blocks the UV rays thereby providing the much needed protection from UV rays. The production of melanin in a person depends on various genetic factors. Due to these genetic factors, a person cannot produce sufficient melanin to provide protection to skin. So UV light finally brings about sunburn in these persons.

Acquiring Sun Burn

People are at a risk of getting sunburn even in cloudy or hazy days. The clouds are capable of reflecting most of the UV rays that pass through them. UV rays are found to reflect off water, ice, snow, sand and other reflective surfaces. The rays from these reflecting surfaces are capable of affecting the skin more rigorously than UV rays from direct sunlight.

It has been found that people living in a sunny atmosphere or even at high altitude are at an increased risk of acquiring sunburn. Thus increased and frequent exposure of radiation to people living in higher altitudes causes sunburn as sunlight in these areas are stronger.

What are the possible signs and symptoms of sunburn?

Sunburn often causes infection to skin. As a result, the skin becomes reddish, increasingly swelling and painful in the affected spot, skin feels hot to touch. Occurrence of small fluid blisters which breaks to cause drainage of pus from it. Usually these signs are accompanied by high fever, fatigue, headache and even diarrhea or vomiting. There is a possibility of burning sensation in lips, scalp, earlobes and eyes which are very much sensitive to ultra violets rays. These symptoms occur after a few hours after exposure and are found to persist for 48 hours. After this period the body starts to heal itself by peeling of the outermost layer of affected skin. Generally the period of healing process depends on the severity and extent of injury.

Who are the people more susceptible to sunburn?

The damage caused by the UV rays is not in same magnitude for all persons. There are variations in the amount of damage and it differs from person to person. It has been found that the fair skinned people are more susceptible to UV rays than dark skinned people. This is attributed to the reason that more melanin is present in the people who have darker skin. This melanin pigment provides resistance to sunburn.

Sunburn Treatment

Usually sunburn heals itself within days or it may take weeks. The period of recovery from sunburn depends on the severity of the burn. The treatment for sunburn in most cases does not heal the induced damage by UV rays, but it actually decreases pain, damage and swelling. Some typical, simple and non prescription medication includes applying cool compress, aloe Vera lotion and some anti inflammatory medication. These are the medications which can be done at home .If these medications doesn’t prove to be effective then consulting a doctor is must. Some of the typical prescriptions of doctors towards sunburn are non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) and corticosteroid medication which are very much effective in relieving from pain and preventing inflammation.

These treatments along with the preventive measures are very much effective in protecting the skin from the sun’s UV rays.

5 Easy-to-Make Antiaging Eye Cream

Dark circles under the eyes seem to be a punishment for living a late-night lifestyle. It is always a horror to wake up one morning,to find out that you're looking more like a panda than an actual human being. Antiaging eye creams are said to help – in the long run – but for today, you just have to live through the day loading your face up with concealer.

You may not be aware of it, but the best eye wrinkle cream or treatment may just be lying around your kitchen. There are several ingredients around your house that you could use to whip up some effective antiaging eye cream or eye treatment, right in the comfort of your own home. Gather up the ingredients, as the solution to those unsightly circles is now within your reach.

Recipe # 1 - Avocado Eye Cream: Mix 5 drops almond oil with 3 ripe avocado slices. Dab around the eyes and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse after.

Reciper # 2 - Potato-Applesauce Eye Cream: Mix about 2 tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce with a small potato (raw and grated). Apply around the eyes and cover with a washcloth damped with warm water. Lie down and relax for a few minutes, then rinse off.

Potatoes which have natural bleaching properties can be used to remove dark circles under the eyes and so can cucumbers and tea bags – which are what most people use as alternatives and supplements to antiaging eye creams.

Recipe # 3 - A lanolin-based eye cream that can be applied to remove dark circles under the eyes, can be made using the following ingredients: 1 tbsp lanolin, 1½ tbsp almond oil, 1 tsp powdered lecithin and 2 tbsp water.

Melt the lanolin with water over a stove in low heat, then add almond oil. Remove from heat, then put in powdered lecithin while adding water in drops. Mix well together and, "Voila!" you've got yourself a cream to lighten dark circles under the eyes.

Recipe # 4 – An Herbal compress that can be used nightly to relieve the eyes – reducing puffiness. In boiling water, steep sage leaves (chamomile or dill can also be used) for 10 minutes. After straining, pour into two separate containers, then place one inside the refrigerator for cooling. Using cotton balls soaked in the two mixtures, apply to eyes alternately – 10 minutes warm, then 10 minutes cool.

Recipe # 5 – Combine lemon juice, tomato puree, orange lentil flour and turmeric powder and mix until pasty. Apply on the dark circles under the eye, and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse.

This is a good, if not the best eye wrinkle cream, that can also lighten dark circles under the eyes.

With these home-made recipes that may work just as well as your favorite antiaging eye cream, there is no more reason to be walking around with permanent shadows under those peepers.

It's likely you�ve noticed new skincare and cosmetic companies popping up with all natural and organic products. Of course, just because they say they are, doesn't necessarily make it true. That is where consumer education comes in, and why it is so important.

The title of this article is �Mineral Makeup�. After learning what mineral makeup is, what products go into it, and what its benefits are, you can decide if this is the right choice for you.

What Is Mineral Makeup?

Mineral makeup is designed from all naturally occurring products. It is often recommended by dermatologists to women with sensitive skin, rosacea, post operative, laser and other procedures because of its intrinsic skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a powder makeup of finely milled minerals. It can provide very sheer or very opaque coverage, depending on the formulation and application. However, it still allows natural skin radiance to show through, so you don�t get the dreaded �mask� look. It is typically free of fragrance and preservatives. Minerals cannot feed bacteria, so there is no danger of spoilage, thus it needs no preservatives. It does not go bad. It is very good for oily skin because it has several oil- absorbing components.

It is usually applied with a brush, and is typically shown to be �buffed� into the skin. This technique forces the makeup into your pores, which is never a good thing. A technique that works with better quality mineral makeup (which we�ll discuss later) is to �dust� the makeup on, instead of �buffing� it. If a brush irritates your skin, you can also use a non-latex or flocked sponge. Application can be done either wet or dry.

What Are The Ingredients?

This is the most important part. Learning what is in your makeup will give you the ability to choose what will meet your needs best. These are the ingredients you will most likely come across.

� Titanium Dioxide- A white natural sunscreen and anti-inflammatory agent. It is highly reflect, with only a diamond being higher, and thus minimizes fine lines and some skin discolorations.

� Zinc Oxide- A natural sunscreen providing broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

� Sericite- A colorless mica that can be used to cut the opacity of Titanium Dioxide and also works as an oil absorber.

� Cornstarch/ Rice Powder- Cosmetic grade- An oil humectant (draws oil out of the pores). Can make acne worse as it is a source of food for bacteria.

� Kaolin Clay- Natural oil-absorption.

� Mica- Natural �glitter�. Provides shimmer and sparkle.

� Iron Oxides- Natural pigment- very opaque. Used for tinting cosmetics.

Ingredients To Avoid

These ingredients are also common, but can cause problems so are best to avoid.

� Talc/ Various Powders- Common fillers- can cause respiratory problems.

� FD&C Dyes- Derived from coal tar.

� Bismuth Oxychloride- Known skin irritant- causes itching, rashes and breakouts. Especially prevalent when the wearer sweats.

� Ferric Ferrocyanide- Controversial because of its suspected toxicity.

� Carmine- Crushed beetles.

What Brand Should I Buy?

Well, if you�re familiar with mineral makeup, it�s likely you�ve seen the infomercials. After further research you�ll find these companies use controversial ingredients, and charge quite a bit for their products.

There are several good mineral makeup companies out there that provide a much better product at a more affordable price, as well as a superior customer experience.
